Orange Tofu, better than orange chicken! If you used to enjoy orange chicken as a non vegan, you'd love this dish: Orange Tofu (powered by Puppy Express, not Panda). This Chinese-inspired vegan dish is incredible easy to make and requires only simple household ingredients.
This Chinese-inspired American dish is one of the nation's favourites. If you were to order takeaway- this would definitely be on the list. However, being a vegan has taught me to be suspicious of food that's been cooked by others- whether or not it is really vegan; so, I prefer to cook everything myself. You may substitute tofu with crispy deep fried cauliflower or even vegetable tempura. You can also make the orange sauce to drizzle over your salad or avocado toast. If you don't like oranges- can also change it to lemon juice. |
Ingredients: |
1 block of extra firm tofu, cut into cubes
1 tablespoon of corn flour Vegetable oil for frying Orange Sauce: 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice 2 tablespoon light soy sauce 2 tablespoon water 2 tablespoon sugar 1/3 cup white vinegar 1 orange zest 1 tablespoon corn flour |
Preparations: |
1. Dust tofu cubes with corn flour and fry them in hot oil until the outside is crispy and rest.
2. Mix all the ingredients for the orange sauce in a bowl 3. Put a wok on high heat and pour in the mixture, stir until the sauce thickens and becomes clear. Add fried tofu blocks and coat them with the orange sauce, turn off the heat. Serve hot. I did add a side of green peas and shredded ginger stir fry, seasoned with a pinch of salt. |
